THE CITY OF BIRCHES

In Umeå, you have both the offerings of city life and magnificent nature to explore. Our two hotels both have perfect starting points for adventures in the city or around the Umeå region. All seasons offer unique experiences such as the northern lights, winter swimming, local cultural activities, or perhaps a trip out to the archipelago.

TWO HOTELS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RIVER

At Scandic, we have two hotels in Umeå, on each side of the river – stay right in the center or a short walk across the bridge.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY HOTEL WITH A POOL

Scandic Umeå Syd is one of our two hotels and is perfectly suited for the whole family. From here, you have just a short walk to Umeå's historical city center with attractions, lovely cafés, restaurants, and museums.

Once back at the hotel, you can sit down in front of the fireplace in our cozy lobby, take a dip in the pool, or visit our gym. In the morning, we serve breakfast, and in the evening, you can have a bite to eat in our popular restaurant.

In the middle of Umeå, right next to the pedestrian street, is our other hotel, Scandic Plaza Umeå. Here you live with city life outside the door. Shopping, entertainment, and many nice restaurants and bars nearby. Take a moment in our relaxation area, which has a view of the river. Visit the gym or warm up in the sauna before dining in the restaurant.

UMEÅ – A CULTURAL CITY WITH CLOSE PROXIMITY TO MAGNIFICENT NATURE

When staying at our hotels, you can always ask if you can borrow one of our bicycles for free or take a long walk in the surroundings. Tips on attractions in and around Umeå:

  • In Umeå, you can take the family to one of the city's adventure baths such as Umelagun outdoor bath, which is open during the summers, or Aquarena adventure bath.
  • If you feel like walking, you can cross the bridge to the other side of the river and visit the Bildmuseum, which is one of Umeå's most popular and inspiring experiences, known for its contemporary art. The museum is beautifully located by the river.
  • The food in Umeå is exciting, with flavors from all corners of the world. You can always count on delicious local ingredients like Arctic char, vendace roe, and Västerbotten cheese. Perhaps you can still get a "roll pizza" today, which became immensely popular in Umeå in the 80s…

If you have brought your car to Umeå, don't miss a visit to the city's archipelago. In the archipelago, you can hike, paddle, and swim or ride a snowmobile and dog sled in the winter.
